Henrietta Cheshire is a Sydney-based textile artist working on Gayamaygal land on the Northern Beaches. Her practice explores how textiles can hold memory and history, particularly the overlooked stories of women’s labour and domestic life.
Trained at the Royal School of Needlework in the UK, Henrietta combines traditional embroidery techniques with contemporary storytelling. Her work has been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (The National), the Museum of Sydney (History Reflected), and internationally in the CoviDesign exhibition at the Greve Museum in Denmark. Her 2023 solo exhibition, Bread for All and Roses Too at Gallery 76, reflected on women’s resilience and collective memory.
Henrietta has a long association with Museums of History NSW, leading the Soft Furnishings Volunteer Group in creating historically accurate textiles for house museums. Her practice weaves together art, heritage and craft to make visible the quiet strength of women’s work.
